FORMER BRAZOS CO. CONSTABLES SAVE MAN’S LIFE

Two former Deputy Constables in Brazos County are being hailed as heroes.

Lt. Shawn Sayers and Phil Crowell were on their way home Tuesday, when  they saw a car upside down in a flooded ditch in Katy.

Crowell jumped out and started directing traffic while Sayers waded through the water and found the driver upside down and trapped in his seatbelt.

Sayers said all he could see was the man’s face--the rest of him was underwater and he was able to tell Sayers that he’d been in the rising waters for quite awhile.

Without a second to spare, Sayers took off his gun belt, grabbed his pocket knife and dove into the swollen ditch to cut the driver free.

Sayers and Crowell work for the Fort Bend County Constable’s Office, and carpool to work each day from Navasota.
