HIGH SPEED CHASE NETS GANG LEADER

  

A high speed pursuit through Fayette County led to the arrest of several undocumented aliens and an alleged dangerous Central American gang leader Friday morning.

Fayette County K-9 Handler Randy Thumann tried to stop a Ford Expedition heading east on Interstate 10 at the 658 mile marker near Flatonia.  The driver of the vehicle sped away and continued east on the Interstate at speeds of over 80  miles per hour.

Lt. David Beyer of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says the pursuit was a dangerous journey that ended in Sealy when a police officer spread out traffic spikes. .

Lt. Beyer said the driver, 38-year old Wilson Fernando Zapata of Mission turned out to be a leader of a violent gang from Honduras and he was a very dangerous man.  He said federal authorities were looking for him and had an immigration on him as a previous felon. .

Zapata was taken into custody.   Fernando had a federal immigration hold on him as a deported felon.
