KOLKHORST SUPPORTS WATER AMENDMENT

State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst is strongly urging her constituents to support a proposed amendment to the State Constitution that she believes will ensure the state’s water needs for the next 50 years.

The Brenham Republican says conservation plays the biggest part in the plan that would take $2 billion from the ‘rainy day’ fund to set up a loan program for numerous water projects.

Kolkhorst emphasizes the money for the projects will be loans, not grants.  She also says the reservoir plans are only for off-channel reservoirs.  These water sources would benefit the rice farmers in the state, including those in Colorado County, who have been deprived of water for the crops during the long drought.

Gov. Rick Perry is also supporting the water proposition on the state constitutional ballot.   Kolkhorst says there is  bi-partisan support across the state.
