LOCAL POLICE INVESTIGATING BURGLARIES, CAR THEFTS AND STOLEN BIKES

Brenham Police are asking the public to take precautions to avoid becoming a victim of an auto burglary.

Police say they’re investigating a number of burglaries where the owners made it quite easy for the suspects.

A gun was taken from a vehicle at the 1900 block of Beazley between 10:00 Monday night and 7:00 Tuesday morning.

A man says his 2010 Toyota Tundra was unlocked and someone simply opened the passenger door and took a 9-millimeter Springfield pistol.

This is just the latest in a number of break ins of unlocked vehicles.

Police say that leaving valuables in your cars and leaving them unlocked creates what they call a “crime of opportunity”—meaning a burglary likely would have taken place if proper precautions had been taken.

The Brenham Police Department is investigating a pair of stolen vehicles.

The first is a blue 2005 Dodge 1500 pickup.

The truck was stolen sometime between 10:00 Monday night and 6:00 Tuesday morning.

The vehicle was taken from a residence in the 2000 block of Carriage Lane.

Also stolen was a 1995 grey Buick LeSabre.

It was taken sometime between 9:00 Monday night and 7:00 Tuesday morning from a home in the 100 block of East Bryan.

Police say that neither vehicle was locked.  Authorities also say the keys to the LeSabre had been left in the cup holder.

Three stolen bicycles were recovered—before they’d even been reported stolen.

Brenham Police say a homeowner at the 200 block of East Lubbock call them to report three bicycles found on his property.

A couple hours later a man living in the 1000 block of Windswept Lane—which is off East Lubbock—reports someone broke into his family’s cars and stole four bicycles off his front porch.

The man says he and wife discovered someone had gotten into their Lincoln Navigator and Nissan Armada, but nothing was taken and there was no damage.

However, their family’s four bicycles had been take from the porch.

Three of those bikes were the ones found on the East Lubbock property.

The police are continuing their investigation.

  1. I hope the Brenham Police Dept is working with the Austin County Sheriffs office in regards to the burglaries that occurred on 7/17/14 in the New Wehdem Community to several vehicles. Hope they find the “people” responsible.
