MAIFEST OPENS TONIGHT!

  

It’s here at last, the opening of the 124th Maifest is tonight (Wednesday) under the Ollie Finke Pavilion at Fireman’s Park

Maifest is the celebration of Brenham’s German heritage and is one of the oldest community festivals  in Texas. Maifest President Heather Thielemann says this long lasting festival begins tonight (Wednesday) at 6pm. with drink, food, Maypole dancers, and even a preview of the junior and senior coronations.

Opening ceremonies will feature German entertainment by John Dujka and the carousel will also be open.

Thus begins several days of fun.  The Maifestival grounds open Saturday after the parade, featuring over 15 food booths and over 50 arts and craft vendors. It will be a great place to buy a Mother’s Day gift.  Thielemann says there are a number of children’s activities that include a bungee trampoline, large bounce houses, a Hippo slide, Obstacle course, a climbing wall, a petting zoo and a trackless train.

Saturday continues with more German heritage festivities, including (German Soda Water), and wine at the Bier Garten.  The local brewery, Brazos Valley Brewery Company, will also have their beer available at the festival each day.

The grounds will have German bands and other entertainers each from from noon to 7pm.  Don’t forget the Ice Cream Smorgasbord on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday night they will have the Anthony Moreno Band from 7 to 10pm, followed by Cory Morrow from 10:30pm, to midnight.  Saturday the music includes the Wesley Westbrook Band from 7 to 10pm.

There is a German Church Service Sunday at 11am at the Fireman’s Park Pavilion.,  The Meister Von Bier Contest is also on tap for Sunday afternoon.
