NAVASOTA SCHOOL TEACHER SENTENCED
A 39-year old elementary school teacher in Navasota pled guilty to indecency with a five-year old girl and was sentenced to two years in prison in a Grimes County court session.
Roberto Andaverde changed his plea right before testimony was to be taken. He accepted a plea deal from District Attorney Tuck McClain. He could have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
A jury had been selected and evidence was going to be presented Wednesday.
Andaverde was a Mexican national, working legally in the Navasota school system as an English as a second language teacher. He pled guilty to two counts involving the same five-year old girl. He was immediately taken into custody after the pleas. He will serve about 80 percent of his sentence and then be sent to Mexico.
