NAVASOTA WOMAN CALLS FOR HELP BUT BOYFRIEND YANKS PHONE FROM WALL

A Navasota man could spend up to a year in jail after a Saturday night incident in which he allegedly abused his girlfriend and ripped the phone off the wall when she tried to call for help.

Twenty-three year old Jared Shawn Sanders was charged with interfering with an emergency request for assistance, a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.  Sanders was released after he posted a $5000 bond.

Navasota police were called to the scene after a dispatcher reported that a woman was disconnected abruptly after dialing 911.  Authorities say before the call was dropped, they could hear items being thrown around the house.  The woman then called from her cell phone and later told police they were arguing over her MP3 player.

Police reports say Sanders admitted to puling the phone from the wall.
