NO BRENHAM BLACK FRIDAY RUSH

One manager and some workers at the Brenham Wal-Mart say that there was no ‘Black Friday’ rush at the store today (Friday), but there were very big crowds at the store Thanksgiving night.

The local Wal-Mart opened Thursday night for a series of Christmas sales.  One manager only calling himself ‘Jose S.’ said there was a large number of shoppers who came to the store beginning at six.  He said most had done their shopping by ten pm.  One Wal-Mart worker said the store was ‘pretty empty’ in the pre-dawn hours today. (Friday).

This is the shortest Christmas shopping season in ten years due to the later Thanksgiving.

Many retailers, including Wal-Mart had guaranteed in stock sales.  They had hoped the extra hours of shopping would boost total sales by 3.9 percent.

Retail stores opening in the early evening hours of Thanksgiving is a continuation of a national trend that began four years ago during the economic collapse.  Many stores began their Christmas shopping sales at midnight Friday.  The creep continued this year and some local retail workers say they expect the early Christmas shopping trend will continue in the years to come.
