ONE MAN KILLED IN CHAPPELL HILL ROLLOVER
Excessive speed was a critical factor in the death of a 17-year old Washington County man in the pre-dawn hours today (Wednesday), according to Cpl Jimmy Morgan of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Morgan said Fernando Duran Mata was ejected from his 2001 Ford Focus at 2:39 in the morning, when he lost control and overturned several times. The accident happened seven miles east of Brenham, on Highway 290, near Chappell Hill. Morgan said Mata was not wearing a seat belt and was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Precinct Three Justice of the Peace Roy May, declared Mata dead at the scene at 2:55am. Mata’s body is being taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.
DPS troopers were at the scene for nearly four hours and the investigation into the cause of the accident continues.
