POLICE INVESTIGATING THEFTS

A local auto dealer reports a number of thefts this past weekend, valued at thousands of dollars.

Monday morning, Sgt. Lloyd Powell responded to Brenham Dodge on Highway 290 West, in reference to multiple burglaries of motor vehicles.

The caller said that sometime between Saturday at 5 p.m. and Monday morning, someone entered the secured back lot of the dealership and stole catalytic converters off of seven vehicles.

Powell said it appeared entry was made through the back fence.

The estimated total loss of the converters was over $27,000.

Brenham Police are investigating a report of an other theft:

Monday morning, Sgt. Jason Derrick responded to the 1300 block of Chappell Hill Street in reference to a theft.

He met the caller who said a tenant had moved out of her rent house and took the original stove top and microwave.

The caller said she had agreed to allow the tenant to install her own microwave and stove top with the condition that the originals be reinstalled when the tenant moved out.

The caller said she had evicted the tenant for not paying the rent; when she arrived at the home to check on her property, the original stove top and microwave were missing.

The total value of both items is estimated to be $500.

  1. Dear FD,

The members of the Brenham Police Department understand your frustration and the frustration that all victims of crime feel. We share it and we do take it personally. We attempt to apprehend criminals as efficiently and quickly as possible. During the time this crime was believed to have been committed, Brenham PD responded to over 175 incidents, all of which were taken seriously. Unfortunately there are some areas in which we do not have direct access due to security fences and there are areas which are out of the line of sight of an officer even if he is in a certain location. The good thing is, Brenham PD has a clearance rate well over the national average. We are proud of our officers and their effort and dedication in the intervention, prevention and apprehension of crime and criminals. We can’t stop all chaos, but we do stop chaos from taking over all things. Regarding your comment that you have been victimized: if you have questions, concerns, comments or complaints we are always open to hear from you and from all of our citizenry. Please know we take crime personally and often are able to prevent crime more often than it is actually committed. That is hard to measure however. We can’t be everywhere at once, but we would like to be. It is for that reason that we ask our residents to work in partnership with us to deter crime.

  2. Sounds like maybe someone should hire a private security firm, instead of expecting the city to do it all for them. If the city cops are busy patrolling the back lots of local businesses all night then that leaves your home vulnerable to a break-in, right? And vice-versa. And then you’ll be upset about that, too. The city doesn’t have the resources to do it all. If the businesses are that concerned about burglaries and thefts, they can hire a private security firm to sit there 24 hours a day.

  3. Sounds like someone is not patrolling our local businesses do u realize how long it took to cut these catylatic converters off these vehicles. Business people u need to speak up about this!! As a resident that was victimized also I have tried to no avail.!!!
