PRESIDENT OBAMA’S ENVIRONMENTAL RULES TO AFFECT TEXAS

The new emissions standards announced by President Obama will have a big effect on Texas.

The new rules set down by the President yesterday (Monday),  the state must reduce heat trapping from power plants by 39 percent by 2030 under one of the strongest actions taken by the federal government to combat climate change.

The sweeping new rules are set to be finalized next year.

The new regulations would give states broad flexibility in meeting the goals but the Environmental Protection Agency proposal was sharply criticized by top officials in Texas and other states that county coals as part of their energy supply..

Gov. Rick Perry said the regulations represent the Obama Administration’s  ‘most direct assault yet’ on energy providers and said further they could drive up electricity bills, threaten the reliability of power and lead to job losses in Texas.

Republican gubernatorial candidate and Attorney General Greg Abbott said he was willing to fight the rules and further accused the Obama Administration of having a ‘job killing agenda.’
