PRIMARY FILING SEASON BEGINS

Candidates seeking their party’s nomination in next year’s election can begin filing Saturday.

The filing period for candidates requesting a place on the 2014 Republican or Democratic primaries need to have their names, paperwork and filing fee in before six pm on December ninth.

Candidates for county offices can file with their party chairs.  Ballots for offices in multi-county districts must be filed with the state party offices.

Ten county positions will be up for election in 2014: county judge, county court at law, district clerk, county clerk, county treasurer, precincts two and four county commissioner, and all four justices of the peace.

Four candidates have already announced for the justice of the peace positions.

William ‘Bill’ Kendall and Robin Luedtke have announced their candidacies for precinct four justice of the peace in the Republican primary.  Incumbent James McCune is stepping down.

Doug Zwiener is running for re-election for precinct one justice of the peace and Roy May wants another term as the precinct three justice of the peace.

The Republican and Democratic primaries are set for March.
