RENOVATED MIDDLE SCHOOL SHOULD BE READY FOR SCHOOL YEAR

Assistant Brenham School Supt. Paul Aschenbeck says the renovations at the Brenham Middle School are ‘coming along’ and the school should be ready when school starts in late August.

Some members of the Brenham School Board toured the school during a special noon meeting of the Board Monday.

Aschenbeck says they saw lots of progress and even some administrators at work in their offices.

Preliminary work began on the renovations almost a year ago, but the main body of work, a virtual reconstruction of the 40-year old campus had to wait until school was out for the summer.  A new library and gym are being built as part of the $12 million project.

Brenham School District voters overwhelmingly approved the renovations in a bond election in May of 2012.  The total $26 million package is also building the new Alton Elementary School in the 1300 block of South Market.

The BISD board called the election after getting reports that the middle school and Alton Elementary School were approaching the end of their useful life and that the construction project was desperately needed.  The bonds passed after the school board adopted a financing plan that would pay for the bonds without a tax increase.
