RENOWNED JOURNALIST AND SCREENWRITER SKIP HOLLANDSWORTH COMING TO BLINN

  

Skip Hollandsworth,a renowned screenwriter, journalist and editor will come to the Brenham campus of Blinn College Tuesday to discuss his wide ranging career and offer tips with the students.

Hollandsworth will speak at a luncheon at 12:15pm at the Janis Sneed Banquet Room at the Student Center.

He spent much of his career with the Texas Monthly magazine, where he became a four time finalist for a National Magazine Award, the industry’s equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize. He won the National Magazine Award in feature writing in 2010 for ‘Still Life’ a story about a young man who spent 33 years confined to his bedroom after a crippling football injury.

Hollandsworth co-wrote  the 2011 film ‘Bernie’, a low budget, dark comedy based on his January 1998 story ‘Midnight in the Garden of East Texas.’  The movie starred Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey and Shirley McClain and depicted the 1996 murder of an affluent widow in Carthage, Texas by her 39-year old companion, Bernie Tiede.

Hollandsworth has worked  as a reporter, a columnist, television producer  and a documentary film maker in Dallas.

Blinn English Professors Amy Winningham and Cheryl Clements  say they are looking forward to the inspiration that Hollandsworth can provide the students, especially those studying communications.
