SBOE CONSIDERS EVOLUTION AND ALGEBRA

The Texas State Board of Education is set to make some critical and probably controversial decisions.

The Board is expected to take a vote today (Thursday) on new science textbooks for use statewide, and on whether Algebra II should be a required high school course.

Members are devising updated academic standards under a curriculum overhaul approved in this year’s session of the State Legislature.

The new mandates promote vocational training.

The doesn’t require Algebra II and some experts believe this weakens the curriculum

The Board is also poised to approve new science books, despite claimed by some social conservatives that they are not skeptical enough about the theory of evolution and climate change.
