SHERIFF HANAK LEADS SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH RUNNERS
With the wail of sirens and Sheriff Otto Hanak carrying the torch, the Special Olympic Torch Runners made their annual run through Brenham today (Thursday on their way to the games this weekend in Arlington,
Law enforcement officers from the gulf coast region, along with their friends in the Good Sam Club came Brenham to (Wednesday) to bring the Special Olympics Torch through Brenham this morning ( Thursday).
Sherriff Otto Hanak held the torch through Brenham saying it was well worth while.
The Torch Runners will make stops in Bryan and College Station, but they always make it to the games in Arlington.
About 100 law enforcement officers gathered for barbecue, door prizes and an auction, in anticipation of the run.
Tracey Matthews-Segura of the Bellaire Police Department said that more officers are taking part this year and they are getting a warm welcome everywhere they go, especially Brenham.
The warm Brenham welcome got a lot warmer after Blue Bell CEO Paul Kruse donated $5000 to the Special Olympics at the dinner.
The Special Olympics are athletic competition for the developmentally challenged people.
