SHERIFF HANAK ON GOVERNMENT SURPLUS ITEMS

Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak says while the county has a chance to acquire a wide variety of items ranging from desks and chairs to armored vehicles and weaponry the items may been more trouble than its worth.

When the Washington County Commissioners meet today (Today), they are expected to authorize the sheriff office to take part in the Texas 1033 Surplus Project.  Sheriff Hanak says these items are surplus from the U.S. Government and the county could get them free of charge however, the county would be responsible for their maintenance.

Sheriff Otto Hanak will need to take a hard look at some U.S. Government surplus.

The Washington County Commissioners would then need to give County Judge John Brieden the authority to sign the documents to take part in this program.

Sheriff Hanak says he would have to assess the needs of his department before acquiring any of this surplus property.

  1. Shefiff, please don’t take this as an opportunity to militarize your force. We don’t need a “police state”
