Law enforcement officers, including Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak and almost all of his deputies, joined all of the elected county officials to honor long time Washington County Sheriff  J.W. Jankowski at his funeral at St. Mary’s Catholic Church today (Wednesday).

Jankowski died early Sunday morning after a lengthy bout with cancer.  He stepped down at the end of his last term after getting the cancer diagnosis.

Jankowski was Washington County Sheriff from 1993 to 2013.  He was frequently recognized for his law enforcement achievements, and the Texas Association of Sheriff’s. 

He oversaw the opening of the new county jail soon after he began his firm term.
