Capt. Jerry Green of the Washington County Sheriff's Office says the additional bailiffs are a precaution.

The Washington County Commissioners initiated a pilot program that will allow the Sheriff’s office to hire four part time bailiffs who will make transporting prisoners a more secure process.

Capt. Jerry Green of the Sheriff’s Office says these bailiffs will not be full time workers and they won’t be needed everyday.  This, he told the County Commissioners at today’s (Monday’s) meeting, will allow the bailiffs who work courtroom security to take more time looking over the courtroom.

Sheriff Otto Hanak will have the authority to hire these part time bailiffs and the county auditor will create a budget for them.

Sheriff Otto Hanak says livestock owners need to keep their livestock from getting loose.

Sheriff Hanak had additional concerns for today’s (Monday’s) meeting.  He once again, warned livestock owners that they need to keep a closer eye on their livestock.   The sheriff told the Commissioners that his deputies are capturing from 80 to 100 loose livestock each month.  Sheriff Hanak says this is causing a traffic hazard that could lead to serious injuries and damage.

  1. I am not sure I understand that police state that Mr. Baker is referring to. Hiring part time deputies seems like a wise use of taxpayer money as well as providing additional and better security in the transport of prisoners. I am no fan of big government, but this request seems very reasonable.

  2. Sure, bring on the police state. Why don’t we just stick a cop on every corner, so everyone can feel “safe”.
