SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES TRIO OF BURGLARIES

The Washington County Sheriff’s office is investigating a trio of burglaries just east of Brenham.

County Sheriff Otto Hanak reports that early this (Tuesday) morning, three reports of burglaries took place in the 1900, 2000, and 2100 block of Rau Road just east of the Brenham Country Club.

Stolen were a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, a semi-automatic pistol, rifle, shotgun and other items.

The burglaries and thefts occurred between the late night Monday and early morning Tuesday.

Back on August 23rd, a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck was stolen from the 1800 block of Lakeview Drive in the city of Brenham and a short time later it was discovered on fire in the 1300 Block of Old Navasota Road.

Investigators believe those responsible are most likely residents of Washington County and are roaming around during the late night hours on foot, bicycles or by vehicle in search of unlocked residences, buildings, and vehicles.

Sheriff Hanak is reminding citizens that law enforcement can only do so much with the manpower available and citizens must take charge and personally do all they can to protect their property by locking thier residences, buildings, and vehicles especially while they are away or asleep.

Sheriff Hanak requests that if any citizen witnesses suspicious activity or strangers in their neighborhoods, to notify law enforcement immediately.

  1. People is naive to believe that Brenham is the Mayberry town it use to be 20 or 30 years ago, face the facts people that Brenham is growing! In a county of 36000 people, the city of Brenham is roughly in it’s 20s of thousands which means crime will go up along with it. Morale of the story lock your doors!

  2. Even after all the media releases people are STILL leaving their vehicle unlocked with valuables and guns inside! I heard a man say yesterday “But this is Brenham. We’re supposed to be able to leave our vehicles and houses unlocked.” Wake up citizens! This is not the Brenham it used to be. Criminals are preying on people with this mentality. The Sheriff and the Chief only have so many officers and they can’t be everywhere. It’s up to the citizens to help them by locking their vehicle and taking valuables inside!
