Flags are flying at half-staff in Somerville, as they honor the fallen Burleson County Deputy Adam Sowders.  Meanwhile the investigation continues in his early morning shooting death, Thursday.

Sgt. Investigator Adam Sowders, a seven year veteran of the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office, was shot to death while serving a warrant at a mobile home just before six am, Thursday near Snook.

Sowders graduated from Somerville High School in 2001, and then went on to become a law enforcement officer.  He graduated from the TEEX Central Texas Police Academy in 2003.  Thursday, the day he killed was one day after his celebrated his seventh anniversary with the department.

The 31-year old Deputy was recently promoted to Deputy Sgt. Investigator.

Burleson County Sheriff Dale Stroud said in an afternoon news conference that when Sowders and a team of officers took gunfire while serving the warrant.

Stroud said he couldn’t go into a lot of detail but noted that the Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.

A man in his late 20s, is in custody as a result of the incident but the district attorney’s office is still investigating what type of charges he might face.
