ST. JOSEPH’S HEALTH SYSTEMS BEING SOLD

The parent company of the St. Joseph’s Health System, that has a clinic in Brenham, and a hospital in Bellville,  announced yesterday (Wednesday)  that it’s in the process of being sold to one of the largest Catholic health systems in the country.

Sylvania Franciscan Health signed a non-binding letter of intent to join the Catholic Health Initiatives.  The St. Joseph’s Health System is operated by SFHM and the acquisition would include its clinics and offices around the Brazos Valley.

The two health care systems expect to reach an agreement this fall.

St. Joseph’s Health Care Systems marketing and communications vice-president Melissa Shay said discussions began about a year and a half ago and the health care group sees the potential move as positive.  She said it was important that St. Joseph’s align itself with a Catholic organization and be in alignment on missions and values.

In December, St. Joseph’s unveiled plans for a new $21 million emergency and trauma center at its Bryan campus, which is the only Level II trauma center. Shay said the potential acquisition will not affect the plans for expansion.
