TEXAS INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND

Texas Independence 2 smallIt’s a weekend of history, demonstrations, tours, exhibits and a huge Texas sized birthday cake as the Washington On the Brazos State Park celebrates the incredible and legendary events that took place there 178 years ago.

Ginger Moreland says all the events at the park will highlight Texas battle for independence from Mexico in 1836. Moreland says admission to the park is free throughout the weekend and there is plenty to see.  She hopes you will see the historic craft demonstrations at the Barrington Living History Farm and the new exhibit at the Star of the Republic Museum, that tells the story of weather forecasting.  They will also have Independence Hall tours throughout the week.

Moreland says the examination into Texas history will also be a lot of fun.

She says they will also have re-enactors portraying the 59 men who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence.  She says many know the story of the Alamo but few know that if independence was not declared there would not have been a battle at the Alamo.

The big event comes Sunday, March 2nd.  Bryan Burch will be telling stories about Texas independence before  the big program at the Amphitheater.  The program begins at two pm, right after some musical entertainment.  State Representative Lois Kolkhorst will be the keynote speaker.  After that, it is Texas size birthday cake at the visitor’s center.  Moreland says they always have enough.

KWHI will have live coverage of the Texas Independence Day program at two Sunday afternoon with Craig Montana.
