TWO POSSIBLE SITES AND NEW MISSION FOR ANIMAL SHELTER

Brenham Police Chief Rex Phelps told (Thursday’s) meeting of the City Council that the Animal Shelter Task Force has two possible sites for a new shelter and have a new mission and name for that shelter.

The two possible sites are next to the next police station, off FM 389 or take up what the Chief called a ‘generous offer’ from the Animal Friends of Washington County, off Highway 36 and behind the Connie Clinic.

Chief Phelps told the Council that the Task Force all in all favored the site near the police station because it was more accessible, but in either case they needed to make a decision because it would make fundraising for the shelter easier.

Chief Phelps says they have raised one million dollars, but they will need another million dollars.

The new animal shelter would be the Brenham Pet Adoption Center, with an emphasis on placing animals into good homes.

Chief Phelps hopes they can raise the money and begin the relocation of the animal shelter in 18 months to two years.
