WASHINGTON COUNTY JUDGE JOHN BRIEDEN RUNNING FOR REELECTION

John Brieden became the first new Washington County Judge in 20 years when he succeeded Dorothy Morgan in January of 2011.  He announced Thursday he wants another term.

Brieden sent an announcement to local media crediting the County Commissioners with the success he has had in his first term.  He said they brought a ‘depth of talent and experience to the table.

Brieden said however, that while he is proud of the work they’ve done there is still much more to be done.  The incumbent Republican pointed to the input for a Strategic Plan for Washington County,  saying that while they may enact the entire plan they have a solid framework to follow.

He also praised the local input into the Rural Texas Transportation Plan.  Brieden praised the proposed work that reconfigures Highway 36 North, from the 290 cloverleaf to the intersection of Business Highway 36 to a T intersection in anticipation of the Highway 36 North Loop becoming a four lane divided road in the future.

Brieden says he will continue to find ways to improve indigent health care along with improving the county budget.

Brieden also pointed to improvements in public health such as overseeing the Washington County Health Resource Center and the new agreements with Scott and White Hospital that  expanded the hours of a nurse practioner and Nurses Aides in the clinic.

Brieden remains hopeful about a compromise between Washington County and the City of Brenham on interlocal agreements will be completed soon.

Brieden has yet to draw an opponent in the upcoming election and the primary is in March.  The candidate filing period ends December 9th.
