WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF SEARCHING FOR WANTED FORMER INMATE
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Brenham woman they say made fraudulent accusations of sexual assault while in the county jail.
On July 25th, 22-year old jail inmate Kayla Lehann Merritt, made allegations and statements that she was sexually assaulted by a Washington County jailer while incarcerated.
An investigation by the Texas Rangers indicated what they called, “overwhelming evidence” that the allegations were false.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Merritt for “False Report to Police Officer”, a Class B Misdemeanor.
It is believed that Merritt has fled Brenham and may be in Mississippi.
Authorities are asking should anyone know her whereabouts, to contact Brenham Emergency Communications at 979-337-7272 or the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 979-277-6251.
