WEISS NAMED TO SOUTH ATLANTIC ALL STAR GAME
A former Brenham Cub, who’s now playing professional baseball is going to his league’s All-Star Game.
Erich Weiss, a member of the West Virginia Power, a Class-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, has been selected top play in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game in Hickory, North Carolina.
Weiss will be a utility infielder for the Northern Division All-Stars.
The Brenham-native is fifth in the South Atlantic League in hitting with a .323 batting average. He’s driven in 19 runs with one home run, an inside-the-park grand slam. Weiss, Pittsburgh's 11th round pick in 2013, is also fifth in the league in on-base percentage (.417).
Weiss was an All-State infielder on the Brenham Cubs’ 2010 State Championship team. He went on to the University of Texas where he was a three-year starter for the Longhorns. He is the son of Gary and Phyllis Weiss of Brenham.
