Alma Martinez-Cooley was behind the wheel of a pickup that struck and killed 21-year-old Lindsay Walters back in 2009.

Walters had been waiting in line to pay for parking, when Martinez-Cooley’s truck barreled into her, killing Walters almost instantly.

Martinez-Cooley was sentenced to five years of probation on the charge of Criminally Negligent Homicide.  She must also serve a week in jail each March to mark the anniversary of Walters' death.

Friday, District Judge Steve Smith denied a request to release the defendant from her remaining probation.

Walters' family and friends attended the court proceedings, wearing white to honor the victim.
