$1.6 MILLION IN COCAINE FOUND HIDDEN IN 18 WHEELER

Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K9 partner Lobos located $1.6 million in cocaine hidden in an 18 wheeler Tuesday.   Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that Tuesday morning at 10:30 Thumann conducted a traffic stop on an 18 wheeler with a box trailer on Interstate 10 near Flatonia.  After interviewing the driver, consent to search the vehicle was given.  Lobos conducted a sweep of the outside of the truck and immediately alerted to the rear differential of the truck.  The 18 wheeler was moved to the Precinct 3 building in Flatonia where 16 kilos of cocaine with a street value of $1.6 million were removed from the rear differential.  Arrested and charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance was 55 year old Steve Palmer of Sealy.

  1. Fayette County does an excellent job at drug interdiction, my question is why does Washington County not put forth the same effort ?
We all know hwy 290 and 36 are used as alternative routes for drug runners and currency couriers to bypass areas where enforcement efforts are concentrated.
Law Enforcement agencies have to be dedicated to this type of interdiction,an experienced officer with well trained K9 can be very productive if allowed to focus full time efforts in interdiction.

  2. Just curious, Sgt. Thumann and Lobos have made a lot of the arrests where large amounts of drugs have been caught. What is the career value of everything they have caught! Seems to me these officers are worth their weight in gold!
