182nd TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION THIS WEEKEND

The place “Where Texas Became Texas” is getting ready to celebrate the 182nd anniversary of Texas Independence this weekend.

Washington on the Brazos State Park is where 59 delegates bravely met in 1836 to make a formal declaration of independence from Mexico.  The park will host thousands of people this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day for one of its biggest celebrations ever.  Park Administrator Ginger Moreland talks about the two stages of non-stop live music and entertainment and some of the acts that will be performing.

The Park, in northeastern Washington County, will also host a number of historical reenactments and displays this weekend.  Cyndee Smith, President of the Washington on the Brazos State Park Association, outlines what you can expect to see.

The Star of the Republic Museum’s new exhibit titled “So Others Could Follow: Four Centuries of Maps That Define Texas” will open this weekend.  The exhibit will illustrate through maps the evolution of Texas over four centuries, both topographically and politically, under seven flags. It runs through February 15, 2019.

Admission fees are waived for the site’s attractions including Independence Hall, the Star of the Republic Museum and Barrington Living History Farm for that weekend celebration. Admission to the grounds, on-site shuttles and parking are also free.

“Texas Independence Day Celebration” is presented by H-E-B and coordinated by the Washington on the Brazos State Park Association, with the assistance of Texas Parks & Wildlife and The Texas Army reenactors.
