1996 CUBETTE SOFTBALL TEAM HONORED AT FUNDRAISER
Members of the 1996 State Championship Brenham Cubette Softball Team were honored Saturday night at the Washington County Event Center.
Former head softball coach Walt Mangan, along with ten members of the 1996 Cubette team, were on hand Saturday for the 1st Annual Cubette Softball Fundraiser. The ’96 team won the very first Class 4A State Championship in Texas. Prior to 1996, classes 4A and 5A competed together in a combined class. Brenham defeated Waco Midway 1 to 0 in Austin to capture the state crown.
Members of that team included Jenny Dean, Sarah Kmiec, Amy Rust, Rachel Rodenbeck, Lauren Ripple, Loralyn Hinze, Kyree Koehne, Amanda Helton, Sarah Scheffer, Kassie Conner, Karey Schnebly, Amy Shackelford, Jamie Kemper, Kathy Spies, Shawna Hartsell, Melonie Loewe, Cory Hueske, Assistant Coach Tina Young and Coach Walt Mangan.
Current head softball coach Katie Roberts says Saturday night’s fundraiser was a tremendous success, and thanks all of the folks who attended or donated to the event. Money raised will be used to build a press box for Alumni Field, and for other team needs. The Cubettes open their 2018 season tomorrow (Tuesday) with scrimmages at Alumni Field against LaGrange and Bellville at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.
