LOCAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS
The Washington County’s jobless rate took a slight drop in the month of August.
The local jobless rate fell 2-tenths of a percent from 4.8-percent in July to 4.6-percent in August.
The work force in August was 17,914, with 17,090 employed.
In area counties:
Austin County’s rate fell one-tenth to 5.1-percent.
Brazos County saw a three-tenths drop to 4.4-percent.
The Burleson County rate of 4.6-percent was one-tenth lower than July.
Fayette County’s rate fell one-tenth to 3.8-percent.
Grimes County saw a drop of three-tenths to 5.2-percent.
Lee County had a one-tenth drop to 4-percent.
And, Waller County’s rate remained the same at 5.7-percent.
The state-wide unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in August, up slightly from 5.1 percent in July. It remained below the national unemployment rate of 6.1 percent.
