2nd GRADER AVHA NOOR WINS SPELLING BEE – VIDEO

Are you smarter than a second grader?  Can you spell escargot?  Well, Avha Noor, a second grader from Brenham Elementary, did that to win the 61st annual Washington County Spelling Bee last night.

Avha is the daughter of Citizen and Sultara Noor and is the only second grader in memory to win the Spelling Bee.  She out spelled 21 competitors as the bee ended after 29 rounds.  Second place finisher Erissa Spry, a seventh grader from Brenham Junior High, faltered on the word fuselage.  Noor successfully spelled it and also the next word, escargot.

The third place finisher was Lauren Chesshir, an eighth grade student at Brenham Christian Academy.  All three of the top finishers received a cash prize from KWHI and they will go on to represent Washington County at the Regional Spelling Bee in College Station on Saturday, February 13th.
