80TH ANNUAL ELLINGER TOMATO FESTIVAL SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

  

The 80th annual Tomato Festival is set this weekend at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Community Center.

Festivities will begin tomorrow (Friday) evening with a chef’s choice competition. Early Saturday morning, the BBQ cook-off will begin with those winners being announced after the judging that afternoon. Saturday evening from 8:00pm to 12:00am will be a Dollar Dance where admission is just $1 with music by Darrel Appelt and The Hit Men.

A special horse show will be held on Sunday morning around 9:00am on Grove Street in front of MAD Taxidermy. Rudy Galindo is the experienced rider who will put his horse through its paces. The parade will start at 10:00am Sunday morning. Registration for the parade will begin at 7:30am on the corner of Munn and Jarmon Streets.

Immediately following the parade will be a special ceremony honoring the veterans and military with a special recognition to Vietnam Veterans.

Something new to the festival this year is a tomato growing contest. All entries must be entered before 11:00am on Sunday morning. First place will receive $50, second place $25 and third place, $10.

Also being featured at the 80th annual tomato festival, a bake sale, a variety wheel, ring toss, and a live auction.
