ABANDONED SEALY PLANT HAS A POTENTIAL BUYER

The now-closed BAE Systems plant located in Sealy may have a buyer.

On Monday, Pct. 3 Commissioner Randy Reichart told the Austin County Commissioners Court on Monday that there was a potential buyer for the abandoned property, and asked the county abandon a short road located on the property.

The concrete road was originally donated to Austin County in 1993 to be used as a secondary driveway for truck traffic at the now closed plant, and at some point, a fence was built across the easement and road, which did not allow for access by the county.

In an effort to clear the title to the land, the owner discovered that the county has an easement on a 240 foot road off of Pyka Road that is now inside the gate at the former military vehicle manufacturing plant.

Pct 1 Commissioner Reese Turner noted that the road is now inside the Sealy city limits.

The commissioners unanimously voted to begin the process of abandonment of the road.

The potential for a new business at the location comes as Austin County Judge Tim Lapham is beginning his term as Austin County Judge, after winning election to the seat held for the last 20 years by Carolyn Bilski.
