ACP/EMS CONTRACT APPROVED

Washington County Commissioners approved a new contract for a service that could help with repeat patients at the local emergency room.

The agreement is for Advanced Community Paramedicine services with the county EMS and the College Station Medical Center.

The Washington County EMS has added three workers under the ACP program and the agreement will allow for the government—thru the state—to provide $220,000 for training and payroll for the three workers.

County Judge John Brieden says the program will also offer improved and less-expensive care, 'if we are visiting these people, making sure they're following up with their doctor and following up with their medications, and they don't go back...we've saved the hospital money it wouldn't have been reimbursed; saved an ambulance trip--this is a money saving program in the long haul."

Brieden says Washington County has been part of the service for about nine months, but due to several changes and re-wording of the contracts, they were not able to approve the contracts until now.

  1. I just want to take the time to say Thank You! to the guys in the EMS dept. These guys do so much for us and really the pay sucks!! Thank You!

  2. What an awesome concept! But hopefully the frequent abusers of the medical and hospital systems will actually understand and take advantage of this continuation of care provided by the participating hospital and our EMS service, and not just see it as another way to milk the system. Education and empowerment over personal health is the key to maintaining good healthly life habits that decrease the drain on our already strained medical resources. I am glad that this is program is being enacted in the county as it is another wonderful way that Washington County EMS continues to care for it’s community after the run is done. Thank you!
