ALL PROPERTY TAX RATES SET FOR 2014

Property owners in the Oak Hill Acres subdivision just north of Brenham will see the largest increase in Washington County in their property tax bills this fall.

Willy Dilworth, Chief Tax Assessor for the Washington County Tax Appraisal District, has released information showing the net effects of the tax rates set by the various taxing entities in the county.  The Oak Hill Acres Fresh Water District increased its property tax rate by 6.3%, just over 2 cents, to a rate of just under 35 cents per $100 valuation.  The Water District lowered its maintenance and operations rate by 7 cents, but added an interest and sinking rate of 9 cents.  A $100,000 property in Oak Hill Acres will see an increase in overall taxes of $77, paying a total of $2062.

Property owners in the City of Brenham are the only ones who will see a net decrease in the taxes they pay.  While the City decreased its tax rate by 1 ½ cents, Washington County raised its rate by just under 6 cents.  The net effect on City property owners is a total net decrease in taxes of $15 for a total tax of $2206 on a $100,000 property.

Here are the net increases in taxes and total taxes on a $100,000 property in the other taxing districts in Washington County:

County residents in Brenham ISD:          $57 increase for a total of $1714 in taxes

County residents in Burton ISD              $57 increase for a total of $1749 in taxes

City of Burton residents                         $57 increase for a total of $2249 in taxes

County residents in Giddings ISD           $37 increase for a total of$1979 in taxes

While most taxing entities in Washington County kept their tax rate the same, rising property values are the culprit in the ever increasing taxes paid by property owners.
