Court-appointed doctors have ruled the man accused of killing Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Darren Goforth is competent to stand trial for capital murder.

Shannon Miles has been undergoing evaluation in a state mental facility since he was transferred in July.

Miles is charged with shooting and killing Goforth at a northwest Harris County gas station just over a year ago.  Miles was arrested within hours.

Attorney Anthony Osso said Miles will be transferred back to the Harris County jail. He says his defense team will ask for medical records, talk them over with experts and talk to Miles himself to see if he’s really better.

Miles is due back in court on Sept. 20.

No trial date has been set but Osso doesn't believe it will happen before next year.
