The Aggies granted his release on Thursday. The school didn't say where Allen would be going.

The sophomore appeared in 10 games for the Aggies this season and threw for 2,210 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

A 6-foot-3, 210-pound sophomore, Allen arrived in College Station before the 2014 season as a highly regarded recruit. He was the No. 1-ranked pocket passer in the 2014 ESPN 300 and the nation's No. 35 overall recruit.

Allen won the starting job out of camp but was benched in favor of freshman Kyler Murray after throwing three interceptions, all of which were returned for touchdowns, in a loss to Alabama in October.

This season Murray is 72-of-121 passing (59.5 percent) for 686 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions and has rushed for 335 yards and a touchdown.

The Aggies will face Louisville in the Music City Bowl, Wednesday, December 30 at 6:00.  The game can be heard on KWHI, beginning with the Aggie Pre-Game Show at 5:00.

  1. The Aggies are going to struggle again next year! They don’t have a good QB and there Oline is awful! Defense can’t stop run! In my opinion they need to start over! They struggle every year! Can’t compete with Alabama or LSU! It’s sickening! Need better recruiting! To be great you have to have a great coach! All the elite teams have elite coaches! Aggies have not had a great coach since RC!

    1. Brian oh how soon Aggies forget. Remember when you couldn’t even compete in the Big 12? Now the Aggies are relevant in the SEC. Which is way better than they have ever been. Since when is 8-9 win seasons not good enough? You are playing in the best conference in the country, and are competing week in week out. They will never be a perennial power but are getting 5 star recruits they have never got before. Get off your high horse and be realistic.

      1. So you are satisfied with mediocrity! I don’t think most fans are! Built a 500 million renovation and u like 8-4 when the schedule was favorable this season? You just watch next year and 6-6 is very likely!
