A&M REGENTS EXTEND SHARP’S CONTRACT

John Sharp

In a strong vote of confidence, members of the Texas A&M Board of Regents unanimously approved a three-year contract extension for Chancellor John Sharp.

The vote authorizes Chairman Charles Schwartz to negotiate and formally execute the agreement, extending Sharp's contract into 2023. His salary will remain at $900,000.

The move by the regents Wednesday puts Sharp on track to becoming the longest-serving chancellor in the history of the A&M System with 12 years of service, should he remain through the end of his contract.

The regents originally were set to consider the contract extension in April but moved back the vote at Sharp's request so that the newest regent, Tim Leach, could participate. Leach's confirmation was still pending in the Texas Senate during the spring.
