A&M TOPS NATION IN ATHLETICS REVENUE

  

Texas A&M tops the nation when it comes to revenue, generated by its athletics program.

USA Today recently reported that A&M led the national in revenue in 2014-15 with over $192-million – a $73-million increase from the previous year.

The University of Texas was second at $183-million.  Texas was No. 1 from 2009-to-2013.

According to athletic department numbers, UT spend over $173-million – while A&M spent $109-million.

USA Today reports that total revenue for the Power 5 conference teams rose by $304-million in 2015 but spending rose by $332-million.

Revenue comes from ticket sales, contributions, rights/licensing, student fees and school funds. Expenses include coaches/staff, scholarships, facilities/overhead.

The SEC had five teams in the Top 10 in total revenue – No. 5 Alabama; No. 6 Florida; No. 7 LSU; and No. 9 Tennessee.  No. 8 Oklahoma gave the Big 12 a pair in the Top 10.

In other Texas universities: Texas Tech is No. 41; Houston, No. 62; Texas State, No. 74; North Texas, No. 85; and Texas-El Paso, No. 89.

Private colleges and universities such as: Baylor, TCU and Rice are not required to release their athletics revenue numbers.
