In just one season, Blinn College shortstop Katie Andrie went from a backup infielder to a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American.

Andrie was named to the NFCA All-America second team after leading the Buccaneers with a .431 batting average and ranking third on the team with 43 runs batted in. She was named all-region, all-conference and was awarded Blinn’s Dr. James H. Atkinson Cup for academic excellence. Andrie, who came to Blinn from China Spring High School, will continue playing softball at Sam Houston State University.

“Katie made such a tremendous turnaround from her freshman year to sophomore season and is certainly deserving of being an All-American,” said Rick Church, Blinn softball coach.

Along with the NFCA All-American honor, Andrie joined teammate Meghann Wrinkle (Rockdale) as an NFCA all-midwest region selection. Andrie was named to the first team while Wrinkle was a second-team selection.

Wrinkle was second on the Buccaneer roster with nine home runs and 45 runs batted in, and finished 2016 with a .333 batting average. Wrinkle will continue playing softball at Tarleton State University.

“Meghann was a consistent performer for us during her two years here,” Church said.

Blinn finished the season with a 37-18 overall record and placed second in the Region XIV South Zone with a 20-4 mark.
