Animal Friends board chairman Bob Davis, recently presented a check for $14,000 to Brenham Police Chief Rex Phelps to support the construction of a new shelter next to the police station.

Davis says the group is pleased to support the efforts of the Shelter Task Force and they look forward to more opportunities to partner with the shelter to provided temporary home for the animals.

The Animal Friends is a non-profit organization that supports a low-income spay and neuter clinic and a dog park which is free to the public.

The group is trying to raise a total of $2-million for the project.  The city has come up with $1-million and another $500,000 was donated anonymously.

Officials hope to go out for bids this month, so construction can begin early next year.
