AREA UNEMPLOYMENT UP SLIGHTLY IN JULY

  

Unemployment in the area was up slightly for the month of July according to numbers released today.  In Washington County, the rate for July was 4.8 percent, up from 4.6 in June.  Statewide, unemployment remained steady for July at a seasonally adjusted rate of 5.1 percent, but that is down from the 6.4 percent in July 2013.

Unemployment numbers for area counties showed a slight increase in July.  Fayette County came in with the lowest unemployment at 3.9 percent, up from 3.7 in June.  Waller County reported the highest unemployment in neighboring counties at 5.7 percent for July.

Statewide, Starr County in far south Texas reported the highest unemployment for July at 14.2 percent and Hemphill County in the panhandle reported the lowest at 2.3 percent.  To view the Texas Workforce Commission report, please visit: http://www.twc.state.tx.us/news/press/2014/081514epress.pdf
