Armstrong arrived at the Grimes County Jail at noon Wednesday with his attorney and was released after posting $150,000 bail.

Grimes County authorities issued a warrant for Armstrong on Tuesday, a day after Navasota police responded to the couple’s home to find 40-year-old Autumn Armstrong dead in her bed with a gunshot wound to her leg.

According to the Bryan/College Station Eagle, the arrest affidavit says Kelly Armstrong called authorities at about 3:15 a.m. on Monday reporting that he had shot his wife.  According to the court document, he told investigators he could not remember shooting his wife and must have been asleep.

The 9-1-1 operator says that during the call, Armstrong's voice was "flat and unemotional," and even went to the bathroom while talking with the 911 operator.

Investigators say that while Armstrong said he had gone to sleep at 11:45 p.m., he had texted several people after 1 a.m., telling them not to come to the house in the morning.

Authorities say the estranged couple was scheduled to meet with their attorney on Monday afternoon to finalize the couple’s divorce.

The Autumn Armstrong Memorial Fund, benefiting her two children, has been set up through Wells Fargo Bank.
