AUSTIN CO. TEEN INJURED IN AUTO-TRAIN WRECK IN WASHINGTON CO.

Traffic was backed up at a Brenham train-crossing Wednesday afternoon, and one person was hospitalized, after a train struck a vehicle at the crossing on FM-109, near U.S. Highway 36 South.

According to Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jimmy Morgan, the accident occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m., when a 2001 Dodge pickup skidded through the crossing arms and into the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe train.

The driver, 17-year old Garrett Krause of Bleiblerville, suffered various injuries and was taken by Washington County EMS ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, where he is in stable condition.

Officials say FM-109 will be closed for the next two days from Highway 36 to FM-3456, as crews work to repair extensive damage to the crossing arms and control boxes.
