AUSTIN COUNTY ESCAPEE CAPTURED

A man who escaped from the Austin County Courthouse has been captured.

Twenty-three year old Jose Haro escaped on foot on October 30 after appearing in Judge Dan Leedy’s misdemeanor court. Haro had an outstanding warrant for a motion to revoke his probation on an assault family violence charge, a Class C misdemeanor.

A bailiff informed Haro that he had an outstanding warrant and was being placed into custody. As the bailiff attempted to move Haro from the courtroom, Haro broke free and ran through an empty jury box before jumping down and fleeing from the courtroom.

He was not apprehended that day, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Tommy Johnson and Rosemary Rodriguez contacted Austin County Sherriff Jack Brandes on October 31 with information concerning Haro’s location. They told him that Haro wanted to turn himself in on his escape from the courthouse.

Rodriguez contacted Haro by phone and arranged for Brandes to meet him at a prescribed location and he would surrender himself.

Brandes met with Johnson and Rodriguez at the prescribed location and Haro was taken into custody and transported to the Austin County jail without incident.

Sherriff Brandes commented that this was,”A prime example of citizens and the Sheriff’s Office working together….our sincere thanks to Tommy Johnson and Rosemary Rodriguez for their help concerning this matter.”
