  1. By no means do I think her decision of posting the picture of what she did on social media was acceptable, but i also don’t think death threats and name calling is either. Let the appropriate people take action THEY seem necessary and all other opinions and cruel threats subside. Regardless she is a human, and we make mistakes, either forgivable or unforgivable to our eyes. The realization that everyone needs to see is animals wild, feral, or domestic are killed daily and our focus is on ONE person because of what???? No one has heard her side or even asked why, how is that fair???

  2. After reading all the hatred and threats people have posted on various newsites and facebook, I really understand why they say we have a serious mental health issue in the US. I have never seen such hatred, stupidity, and down right bizarre comments. Death threats over a cat? wishing her family harm and death, over a cat? God I was hoping it was all some sort of weird joke, but people have gone full-crazy on this one.

    1. Yeah, those death threats are wrong. Stupidity comes in all stripes. But those death threats from some stupid cat-loving people don’t excuse what Ms. Lindsey did. She violated her oath as a veterinarian and killed an animal in an inhumane way. How does what she did differ from what some thug in an inner city does when he sets a cat on fire or bludgeons it? What she did is not professional nor is it civilized. This is not the type of behavior we want others in our society (and kids for Heaven’s sake) to emulate.

  3. Ms Lindsey has apparently forgotten the oath that every graduating Veterinarian promises .. It goes as follows ….. Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health and welfare, the prevention and relief of animal suffering, the conservation of animal resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge.

I will practice my profession conscientiously, with dignity, and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics.

I accept as a lifelong obligation the continual improvement of my professional knowledge and competence.
I hope they file charges against her for animal cruelty …

  4. Why are the pet owners not being charged with cruelty for allowing their animal to roam unsupervised on another person’s property? This animal’s fate was decided by its owners. Dogs and cats are killed everyday because owners let them roam and chase/kill livestock.

    1. Last time I checked, it is not illegal to let your cat out. It is illegal however, to murder a cat in cold blood.

    2. Sometimes pets accidentally get out of their yard or house (as my daughters dog did once). This does not give a person a right to kill this animal because its on they’re property (as my neighbor did). I found out from various neighbors that many pets had been used as target practice just as our beloved dog. It was hearbreaking.

    3. Brian apparently have you never heard of an animal getting out, of their home, accidentally? I had a cat get away from me when I was trying to take him to the vet, found him okay a day later, in the woods near where he got away. This cat didn’t deserve to die in the manner it did.

  5. If you are a hunter and you have the choice between killing an animal in a way that guarantees that it will suffer or killing it in a way that minimizes suffering, what would you do, SMS? Even if Kristen Lindsey believed that that cat needed to be put down, she could have trapped it, brought it back to the clinic, and euthanized it humanely. What she did was inhumane. There is no excuse for what she did.

    1. Well George R what I would do and what you would do are probably different and really doesn’t matter. Do people really know why they are outraged? Is it because she shoot a cat and put it on facebook? Is it because she acted in such a way? Perhaps it is because she is a pretty young lady, but whatever the reason why are people bad mouthing and concerned, get over it!

      1. I know exactly why I’m outraged. I made that clear in my post. She caused that animal unnecessary suffering. That’s why I and many others are outraged. That she then boasted about it says volumes about her character and judgement. As for my getting over it… I happen to believe that indifference makes one complicit. Don’t hold your breath.

        1. I cannot understand why so many people insist it would be more humane to trap a cat and take it to the vet clinic and euthanize it. I am pretty certain as I’m sure Ms. Lindsey was that an arrow to the head is as fast and painless a death as is possible. The cat never felt a thing. Trapping it and hauling it around the country only to then euthanize it- THAT is cruel and inhumane.

          1. The Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, and the faculty (including the Dean and Associate Dean) of Colorado State University’s DVM program (where Kristen earned her degree) disagree with you. By trap, you do realize I mean a live trap don’t you? They use this type of trap in Trap Neuter Return programs which is an effective and humane way of controlling feral cat populations. BTW, compared to the velocity of a bullet, arrows are slow. Animals shot by arrows suffer. In fact, it’s not entirely clear from the picture that the cat was dead when the picture was taken. But all of these issues will be fully investigated as they should be.

  6. You know what is sad with this story is the media!!!!! No she should not have posted the picture and so called bragged about it but how many people have shot any kind of animal that either was for fun or was ruining their belongings?? I truly feel sorry for the young lady and hope she can forget how this town has treated her story. I hope she finds a job doing what she loves soon!!

    1. SMS.

Just because other people shoot animals doesn’t make it right. As a vet she should have KNOWN Better. Whatever job she gets next I hope its far away from working with animals.

    2. No, the sad story is that how callous and cavalier ,Ms. Lindsey, was over taking a life. If anyone is to blame about , Ms. Lindsey’s, situation is Ms. Lindsey. She chose and received a degree and license in the field of animal care and medicine. As evidenced from the photo where she shot the cat through the head with the arrow and stories from individuals who delt with her in the past, I do not know why she entered into this field. No, Ms. Lindsey, shooting a cat in the head with an arrow will not get you ” vet of the year award” as you have nominated yourself for. For those few who are trying to justify her actions, this would be equalivlant to a medical doctor shooting the homeless outside their office or maybe those who are not necessary homeless. This poor cat belonged to someone. I am glad that the state board and other agencies are looking into this barbaric act. What concerns me is how many life term individuals in prison started out by killing animals. Ms. Lindsey , your behavior will not be tolerated and you are Not ” awesome” as you think you are and have stated for the world to see. It seems that I am not alone in my views as individuals across the globe now have their eyes on Washington and Austin counties. Shame on you Ms. Lindsey .

    3. It’s never right to shoot the neighbors pet cat in the head with your crossbow (if nothing else it’s illegal) but the fact she’s a veterinarian, a vocation from which we expect compassion and empathy, makes her apparent delight and amusement as she callously dangles her “kill” by the arrow, bragging about it on Facebook, particularly disturbing. She displays absolutely no empathy, maturity, professionalism, or even regard for the law. The only thing that needs feeling sorry for here is the trusting cat.
