AUSTIN MAN CONVICTED OF ILLEGAL DUMPING IN WASHINGTON CO.

An Austin man has been convicted of illegal dumping in Washington County. According to the County Environmental Health Department, a county resident reported illegal dumping of mattresses on Wildwood Road in August. Personnel from the Washington County Environmental Health Dept. investigated the incident, which resulted in delivery driver, Yordanis Bustamante, 36 of Austin, appearing in County Court at Law on October 18th. He reportedly had delivered a new mattress to a customer in Washington County and hauled off their old mattress. Instead of properly disposing of it, he dumped it on the side of the road near Ledbetter. Bustamante was found guilty and ordered to pay fine, court costs, restitution, and court appointed attorney fees totaling $1,427.

Washington County Enviromental Health Director Mark Marzahn says that illegal dumping continues to be a problem locally, costing property owners and taxpayers thousands of dollars each year cleaning up illegal dumpsites. To report illegal dumping, call the Environmental Health Dept. at (979) 277-6290.

  1. Are you kidding me? ALL of the roads in Washington County are covered in trash. The only time the trash is picked up is before the bluebonnets bloom and then after when the road crews cut the grass. Need an example? Just look at the drainage area next to Walmart/Taco Bell after a good rain. Drive down Hwy 36…290….105. Most of it is locally generated fast food trash, paper and beer cans/bottles.

  2. Glad they caught him. Better than make him spend the night in jail, make him pick a few miles of trash!

  3. Shame on Yordanus for illegally dumping in our beautiful Washington County. Yordanus should’ve had to spend a few nights in jail with his dumped mattress.
