AUTHORITIES ON THE ROADS FOR 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND

Fourth of July celebrations are underway and as always, state and local law enforcement officers are out in full force for one of the deadliest holidays of the year.

During the July 4th weekend last year, more than a thousand people in Texas were arrested in motor vehicle crashes involving a drunk driver—resulting in almost three dozen deaths, nearly 30 percent of the year's total traffic fatalities.

State troopers arrested more than a thousand people for driving drunk last holiday, and during that same period, roughly 15,000 speeding and seat belt violations were issued.

Brenham Police and Washington County Sheriff's Deputies along with DPS are stepping up patrols looking out for those breaking the law.

The weekend is also very busy when it comes to boating at area lakes. Patrols will also be stepped up there. Police recommend not to drink while operating a boat. Also adults and children should wear safety vests at all times while in the boat.
